Spices of Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka, since the olden days has been synonymous with exotic spice varieties sought after by many, world over. This emerald isle was not only envied by various nations owing to its abundance of these rich elements, but was eventually invaded by those who wished to claim these much priced possessions for themselves.
Even today, Sri Lanka continues to hold a prime position in global spice markets with its production of high-quality spices. Among the list of high quality spices currently produced in Sri Lanka are cinnamon the most delicately scented of spices and popularly used in rice and curries, cardamom a spice with aromatic properties and used in confectionaries and sauces midst a plethora of others to which includes coriander, turmeric, fenugreek, cumin, curry leaves, lemon grass etc. They can be viewed up close and purchased at the spice gardens located in Kandy, Matale and Mawanella.

Tourist Arrivals ...
Aided by a healthy 13 percent improvement in June, tourist arrivals to post-war Sri Lanka in the first half of this year have crossed the half-a-million mark, latest data showed here on Thursday. According to latest data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), arrivals between January and June amounted to 512,281, up by 13.1 percent over the first half of last year.
