Described as ‘one of the vastest and most reverenced cathedrals of the human race’, this lofty mountain in the Southern hill country brings together pilgrims of many faiths every year.

Adam’s Peak – the name derives from one of the many legendary tales associated with it; that the footprint atop the hill belongs to Adam. However, beliefs of the footprint’s origin differ according to various faiths – Buddhists believe it to be Buddha’s while Catholics believe its St Thomas’s, and Hindus – Lord Shiva’s.

Although primarily renowned as a location of religious importance, the visitors do not make the 5000-stair climb to its misty top just for worship but also because of its unparalleled vistas of the azure skies above and the lush platoons below.

The hike up the peak can be an interesting experience, particularly for adventure enthusiasts. The pilgrimage season commences in December and continues until May.
