The Nabataean capital of Petra is one of the many spectacular historical sites in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, a country of deep traditions that has worked to preserve its ancient inheritance and natural beauty while navigating modern realities in a region of continuing conflict.Reclining on a rooftop carved two millennia ago, a Bedouin surveys the realm of the Nabataeans, beckoning from the sands of southern Jordan. Forgotten for centuries, Petra still echoes with mysteries of the past; this immense building, Al Deir (the Monastery), was probably a Nabataean shrine.
A Sphinx is a zoomorphic mythological figure which is depicted as a recumbent lion with a human head. It has its origins in sculpted figures of Old Kingdom Egypt, to which the ancient Greeks applied their own name for a female monster, the "strangler", an archaic figure of Greek mythology. Similar creatures appear throughout South and South-East Asia, and the sphinx enjoyed a major revival in European decorative art from the Renaissance onwards.
Baros resort used to be a small place until 2005 when it was rebuilt and rehabilitated from scratch. The new structure and architecture as well as the styling of the building are worthwhile and modern. The original value of the Baros resort is not lost from any views and angles and it is still as popular as many other places that are found in Maldives; just that it is a lot more captivating and prevailing than before.
Batu Caves are located 12 km north of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and are believed to be more than 400 million years old. The most famous attraction in the caves' proximity is a temple, dedicated to the martial god Muruga - the largest Hindu shrine outside the lands of India. The sacred place is accessible only through 272 steps, though the magnificence and relics are worth every step of the climb. A fascinating feature of the place of worship is the nearly 40-metre high gold plated statue of the deity, the tallest in the world.
Up here in northern Thailand, the temple pilgrimage still exists. Citizens walk up a mountain, and once they get to the top (of the mountain) they are faced with 300 some stairs to get to the top of Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple. I got to the bottom of the main set of temple stairs and waited for just the right mix of mist and sunlight.
The distinctive sail-shaped silhouette of Burj Al Arab is more than just a stunning hotel; it is a symbol of modern Dubai.
Yet for all the wonder this stunning structure provides when you finally see it in person, it is the service within that really makes the Burj Al Arab so extraordinary.
